SWF Championship
Three red cards marred Edinburgh City’s first home game of the Scottish Women’s Championship, as last season’s League One winners were held 2-2 by Morton in the torrential rain at Meadowbank.
Amy Hay initially marked her return to the capital club by scoring an early goal followed by a second-half strike by Holly Aitchison. But Morton Captain Nicole Haggerty pulled one back from outside the box, then second-half sub Rhiana Rankin showed great composure to equalise on 71 minutes.
A flurry of cards followed, with Hay picking up her second red of the season for a kickout and Emma Yorkston also seeing red following an exchange with the referee after Morton striker Gracie Cairney had seen yellow.
City then had goalkeeper Rachel Docherty to thank as Morton applied the pressure before more cards were shown in the final minutes, including a third red card for the home side’s Charlotte McDougall on the final whistle.
Championship leaders Rossvale remain unbeaten after a comfortable 4-0 victory in Aberdeen against Westdyke, while Ayr United kept pace in second with a 9-0 victory over Hutchison Vale’s depleted squad.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle returned to winning ways as a Rhea Hossack double saw off visiting Dryburgh Athletic in a 2-1 victory, captain Laura Boag nodding home for the Dundee side. The victory keeps the Highlanders level on points with second-placed Ayr.
Meanwhile, doubles from Emma Paterson and Micheala Brown helped Renfrew Ladies to an impressive 5-2 victory at East Fife to see them into fourth.
SWF League One
In the top-of-the-table clash in League One, Forfar Farmington took advantage of Airdrie Ladies having two players sent off in the first half to claim a 3-1 victory to send the Angus side clear at the top of the table.
Queen of the South romped to an 11-0 victory over Giffnock with six goals from Holly Ovens, a hat-trick for Georgia Wilson, and a goal each for Charlotte Bryden and Maisie Copland sending a signal of intent from the newly promoted side.
Fellow newcomers Bonnyrigg Rose beat BSC Glasgow at Poltonhall, an early strike by Saffron McCabe cancelled out by a spectacular goal from distance by BSC skipper Sam McManus before two quick goals from Caitlin Lowe and Alexis Curry secured the points for the home side in the first half.
Elsewhere, Falkirk beat St. Mirren 2-0 at home and a Helen Templeton hat-trick helped Stenhousemuir to a 7-1 victory over Dundee West.
